This week in the library we continued reviewing library procedures, book care, and how to use our  online catalog. I had always heard of this wonderful book but could never get my hands on one since it is out of print. However, I borrowed it from another librarian friend and was so glad she lent it to me. It is great! It shows children how to take care of books by giving examples of what we don't want to do to our library books, (drawing on our books, tearing the pages, spills) you name it!  I think it really helped the kids to understand how to treat books. We then played a fun sorting game on our SMART board where the kids sorted pictures of the right and wrong way to treat books.  

 

They did a super job with the game and with the SMART board. At first I was worried about our littlest ones getting the hang of it, but I soon saw that it was a piece of cake to them.

With 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th we reviewed how to access our online catalog. We also reviewed the different types of books and sections we have in our library since everything is now in a new spot! This is a skill that always needs lots of review and practice because it can get tricky at times so I was sure to reiterate that to them.        

The kids are still raving about our new space, and I continue to get positive feedback about how much they love coming to the library, or that they can't wait to come back. That my friends is music to my ears and the reason I love my job!
